This is primarily a martial arts based website and is the work of Gene Starkey, retired from
an engineering career, who teaches martial arts in Boulder CO, U.S.A. He specializes in American Hard Style
Japanese Swordsmanship.
Also, he continues to study Tang Soo Do and Shotokan Karate. He holds black belts, 1st Dan or higher, in Tang Soo Do,
Praying Mantis Kung Fu, American Hard Style Japanese Swordsmanship and Shotokan Karate.
His instructor in American Hard Style is Robert Thomas Chang, the founder of the style. Gene travels to California about
twice a year for continued study with Founder Chang. Information about Gene's Japanese Swordsmanship classes can be found
below.
His instructor in Tang Soo Do is Master Yen Touysinhthiphonexay of the World Tang Soo Do association.
Gene has received considerable advice regarding this website from Charles Strong, a prominent artist and
long time friend.

We do drills (both one person and two persons), kata, sets, two-sword drills & kata (at higher belt levels),
cutting (also at higher belt levels) and sparring with safe weapons at all belt levels.
There is considerable emphasis on precision, technique and mental discipline.
Guests & prospective students can visit a class anytime &/or take one free trial class.
